Fallout is a live-action television adaptation of the iconic video game franchise, released by Amazon Prime Video in April 2024. Set more than two centuries after a catastrophic nuclear war in 2077, the story blends post-apocalyptic survival with dark humor and retro-futuristic style, remaining faithful to the beloved tone of the games.

The narrative follows Lucy, played by Ella Purnell, a young woman who has lived her entire life in the safety of Vault 33, one of the underground shelters designed to protect humanity from the nuclear wasteland. When circumstances force her to leave the Vault, she steps into the harsh, irradiated ruins of what was once the United States. The outside world, known as the Wasteland, is filled with mutated creatures, ruthless raiders, and warring factions fighting for survival.
Along her journey, Lucy encounters two major characters who represent different aspects of this brutal world. The Ghoul (Walton Goggins), once human, is now a scarred and nearly immortal gunslinger who has adapted to the wasteland through radiation. He is dangerous yet complex, embodying both menace and tragic humanity. Meanwhile, Maximus (Aaron Moten) is a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, a militaristic faction obsessed with preserving technology and maintaining control through power armor and advanced weapons.
The series explores themes of morality, survival, and the clash between idealism and pragmatism. Lucy’s optimism and belief in the Vaults’ mission collide with the grim realities of the surface, forcing her to adapt quickly in order to survive.
Visually striking and narratively ambitious, Fallout combines thrilling action with thought-provoking world-building. Praised for its production design and character-driven storytelling, the show quickly became one of Prime Video’s most-watched series, securing renewals for multiple seasons and cementing its place as a faithful yet fresh expansion of the Fallout universe.
