Dragonball Evolution is a live-action adaptation of the popular Dragon Ball manga and anime series by Akira Toriyama. Directed by James Wong, the film follows the story of Goku, a young high school student who embarks on a quest to gather the seven Dragon Balls, mystical artifacts capable of granting any wish when collected together.

The movie begins with Goku (played by Justin Chatwin) living a normal life with his grandfather, Gohan, in a peaceful town. However, Goku’s life changes when the evil villain Piccolo (James Marsters) is resurrected and begins his plan to conquer Earth. Goku, guided by his mentor Master Roshi (Chow Yun-Fat), learns about the Dragon Balls and the powerful force they possess. Alongside friends like Bulma (Emmy Rossum) and Chi-Chi (Jamie Chung), Goku embarks on an adventure to find all seven Dragon Balls before Piccolo does.
Throughout the film, Goku learns to harness his hidden powers and taps into his potential as the legendary warrior known as the “Saiyan.” He confronts Piccolo in a battle to protect Earth and save his loved ones, ultimately fulfilling his destiny.
Despite its action-packed premise, Dragonball Evolution was met with negative reviews, with many fans of the original series criticizing the film’s deviation from the source material, its lackluster special effects, and underdeveloped characters. However, it still found an audience for casual viewers and those unfamiliar with the original Dragon Ball series.
The film has since been considered a disappointment for many Dragon Ball fans, as it fails to capture the spirit and excitement of the beloved anime and manga series.
