The Boys Season 4: When Animals Turn into Monsters

In Season 4, Episode 5 of The Boys, titled “Beware the Jabberwock, My Son,” the team ventures to a secluded farm laboratory operated by Victoria Neuman. There, they aim to retrieve a virus capable of neutralizing superheroes. However, the mission takes a perilous turn when they encounter farm animals that have been subjected to Compound V, transforming them into formidable threats.

The episode showcases a variety of genetically altered animals, including chickens with tentacle-like appendages and sheep exhibiting aggressive behavior and flight capabilities. These creatures, once docile, have become lethal due to their exposure to Compound V, leading to chaotic and intense confrontations. The team’s struggle to survive against these superpowered animals adds a darkly comedic and surreal element to the narrative.

Amidst the chaos, the group discovers that Sameer, a scientist involved in the creation of the virus, has been hiding in the barn. In a desperate move, Butcher and Joe Kessler amputate Sameer’s leg to prevent him from escaping, intending to use him to replicate the virus for their cause. This morally ambiguous decision underscores the lengths to which the team is willing to go to achieve their objectives.

The episode also delves into the personal turmoil of Hughie Campbell, whose father, Hugh Sr., has been revived using Compound V. The revival leads to unforeseen consequences, including violent outbursts, highlighting the unpredictable and often dangerous effects of Compound V on individuals.

Overall, this episode blends horror, dark humor, and ethical dilemmas, continuing The Boys‘ tradition of satirizing the superhero genre while exploring the complexities of power and morality.
