Crawford Hopes to See 'Bam' Rodriguez Face Pound-for-Pound Star Inoue After Retirement
Now enjoying retirement, former unified champion Terence Crawford has revealed which fights he's most excited to watch as a fan - with a potential blockbuster matchup between Naoya Inoue and Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez topping his list.
Inoue, known as 'The Monster,' has captured titles across four weight divisions and currently holds undisputed status at both bantamweight and super-bantamweight. The Japanese star faces his toughest challenge yet against countryman Junto Nakatani, another undefeated pound-for-pound contender with honors in three weight classes.
Despite speculation about moving up to featherweight after the Nakatani bout, the 32-year-old plans to remain at 122lbs for one additional fight. With Inoue having largely dominated the super-bantamweight division over three years, questions arise about his next opponent.
"I would love to see 'Bam' [Jesse Rodriguez] versus [Naoya] Inoue," Crawford told Dani Pirrello, expressing his desire for this high-profile matchup.
Rodriguez, the unified super-flyweight world champion, appears positioned for this clash after targeting Antonio Vargas in June for his bantamweight debut. Both 'Bam' and trainer Robert Garcia have shown interest in jumping another weight class to meet Inoue, creating a potential megafight that could attract boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh, who works with both fighters.
