The Forever Purge (2021) is the fifth installment in The Purge franchise, directed by Everardo Gout. The film is set in a dystopian future where, every year, the government allows a 12-hour period known as “The Purge” during which all crimes, including murder, are legal. This film, however, takes place after the traditional Purge, where violence continues beyond the sanctioned hours.

The story follows a group of characters in Texas, including a Mexican immigrant family: Adela (Ana de la Reguera) and Juan (Tenoch Huerta). After surviving the night of Purge violence, they find themselves caught in a new wave of chaos when a group of citizens, led by a radical militia, decides to continue the Purge indefinitely. These vigilantes, calling themselves the “Forever Purge,” reject the idea of ever-ending violence and aim to create a society where the Purge is a permanent state of being.
As violence escalates, Adela and Juan, along with a few others they encounter, must fight to survive in a lawless world. They try to seek refuge in a wealthy ranch owned by a family, but they soon realize that the rich have their own selfish agendas, and they must work together to survive the growing threats.
The film explores themes of inequality, political corruption, and the consequences of allowing violence to thrive in society. The “Forever Purge” serves as a chilling commentary on the breakdown of social order, and how unchecked violence and division can destroy a society. It’s a gripping tale of survival against a backdrop of anarchy and chaos, offering an intense and thought-provoking exploration of dystopian fear.
