Killer Book Club – Books, Guilt, and Blood: The Nightmare Begins

“Killer Book Club” is a Spanish slasher thriller directed by Carlos Alonso Ojea and released on Netflix in 2023. The film blends elements of mystery, horror, and teenage drama, delivering a dark and suspenseful story about guilt, revenge, and the price of keeping secrets.

The story follows a group of eight university students who share a passion for horror novels. Together, they form a book club where they discuss their favorite thrillers and classic slasher stories. However, their lives take a terrifying turn after they accidentally cause the death of one of their classmates. Fearing the consequences, the group makes a pact to keep the incident a secret forever.

A few weeks later, they begin receiving mysterious messages from someone who knows exactly what they did. Soon, a killer dressed as a clown—reminiscent of the characters from their horror books—starts hunting them down one by one. Panic, paranoia, and mistrust spread quickly as the survivors realize that the murderer might be someone within their own circle.

As the body count rises, the truth behind the group’s dark secret unravels, revealing betrayal, obsession, and vengeance. The line between fiction and reality blurs, forcing the remaining members to confront the consequences of their actions.

With its chilling atmosphere, stylish cinematography, and clever references to the slasher genre, Killer Book Club pays homage to classics like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The film explores how guilt can consume even the closest friendships—and how the monsters we create in stories can become terrifyingly real.
