As of July 29, 2025, a tragic mass shooting occurred on the evening of July 28 at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The incident began around 6:30 p.m. when a gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, entered the building armed with an AR-15-style rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest. He opened fire in the lobby and upper floors, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including an off-duty NYPD officer working a security detail, and injuries to at least six others. After barricading himself on the 33rd floor, Tamura died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The building houses offices for major firms such as Blackstone, the National Football League (NFL), KPMG, and Deutsche Bank. Authorities, including the NYPD, FBI, and FDNY, responded swiftly, securing the scene by approximately 8 p.m. Mayor Eric Adams and other officials have urged the public to avoid the area as investigations continue.
