After losing a lawsuit related to security in the UK, Prince Harry gave an interview to the BBC on May 2nd regarding the ongoing tensions with his family. “I really want to reconcile with my family. Continuing to feud is meaningless,” said the Duke of Sussex.
“Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father will be around,” Harry continued, referring to King Charles III’s battle with cancer. “He won’t talk to me anymore because of this security issue, but it would be great if we could make peace,” the 40-year-old prince added.

When asked if he wanted his father to intervene in the security dispute, Prince Harry responded, “I’ve never asked him to intervene. I just want him to step aside and let the experts do their job.”
Harry also acknowledged that he has many disagreements with his family, and some may never forgive him for what he wrote in his memoir Spare. However, he said he had “forgiven” them.
The rift within the royal family became public in 2020 when Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal duties. For the Duke of Sussex, no issue is more important than security.
Although there was a positive meeting between the father and son in February 2024 after King Charles III announced his cancer diagnosis, the king has since stopped taking calls and responding to letters from his youngest son. “Harry always gets the response ‘currently unavailable.’ His calls go unanswered. He tried to reach out to check on the king’s health, but those calls went unanswered too,” a friend of Harry’s said last year.

King Charles III and Harry are said to have differing views on Harry’s pursuit of the lawsuit against the Home Office. Harry’s decision regarding his security was seen as a natural move after he stepped down from royal duties and moved abroad. However, it made Harry feel mistreated and blamed the British royal family for influencing his decision.
Losing the lawsuit means that Harry, Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet will not be afforded armed police protection funded by taxpayers when in the UK. This raises questions about whether the Sussex family will return to the UK.
When asked how the current security arrangement makes him feel unsafe, Harry responded, “Everything.” He mentioned that he wouldn’t have pursued the lawsuit without compelling evidence. The Duke of Sussex also said he couldn’t imagine bringing his wife and children back to the UK at this time. He expressed his love for his homeland and regret that he couldn’t show his children their home country.
