Meg 2: The Trench (2023) is a sci-fi action thriller directed by Ben Wheatley, serving as the sequel to The Meg (2018). The film follows Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham), who now co-parents Meiying (Shuya Sophia Cai), the daughter of his late wife Suyin Zhang, alongside her uncle Jiuming Zhang (Wu Jing). Together, they lead the Mana One research team in exploring the Mariana Trench.

During a routine submersible mission, the team discovers that Haiqi, a Megalodon they had been studying, has escaped captivity. They also uncover an illegal mining operation led by mercenary Montes (Sergio Peris-Mencheta), who is working with the corrupt financier Hillary Driscoll (Sienna Guillory) to exploit the Trench’s resources. Montes sabotages their mission, causing a rupture in the Trench and releasing several prehistoric creatures, including multiple Megalodons, giant octopuses, and Snappers.
As the creatures surface and wreak havoc on nearby Fun Island, Jonas and his team must battle both the predators and human adversaries. In the climactic showdown, Jonas kills the beta Megalodon, and Jiuming uses a fertilizer bomb to defeat the giant octopus. Haiqi, the Megalodon they had been studying, kills the alpha Megalodon, and Jonas uses a helicopter rotor to fatally impale it. The film ends with the possibility of future threats, as Haiqi may be pregnant, hinting at more Megalodons emerging.
Meg 2: The Trench delivers high-octane action and thrilling underwater encounters, blending human conflict with monstrous adversaries in the depths of the ocean.
